Catalytic conversion of methane to ethylene for polymers

Methane, a potent greenhouse gas whose effect is 21 times higher than CO2, is present in a significant proportion in the world, primarily in natural gas. Moreover, crude oil wells and decomposable waste also produce CH4. These resources have been hardly utilized due to lack of proper chemistry and technology to convert CH4 efficiently and economically to valuable compounds such as ethylene. Catalysts produced from rapid and scalable flame spray pyrolysis technique are explored for production of ethylene. Importantly, the project is focused on achieving high selectivity and yield for ethylene generation.
